Is it heresy to want those flares, those wheels, and that motor... in this truck?

Yep. It wasn't. Biggest reason why the engines were so bad at making power. Nissan made some crossflow race heads for them but they are long gone, and the OS Giken heads are crossflow but super expensive ($30k+ assuming you can find one).
If the Z engine had 4v crossflow heads, it would be making closer to 200HP for the 240z, and 250HP for the 280ZX.
The engines are more than capable of handling 300 HP and up to 8000 RPM on the stock components, it's the valvetrain that limits them, which is why most people just go turbo.

I'm getting better linkage for my carbs, I found a list of settings from an old Z mechanic and I'm going to try it. I think Weber makes a nice billet linkage, mine has springs hooked all over it. I want a nice radiator too, before it gets hot. Are electric fans really better?
